The free AI Visibility Map, explained

The RankOps AI Visibility Rubric

Every free AI Visibility Map scores a business out of 100 on the same 8 categories, the same way every time. This page shows each category, how many points it is worth, and what each score range means. Each category has its own page explaining why it matters and how to improve it.

The 8 categories

CategoryWhat it checksPoints
Independent authorityHow many independent sites mention your business20
Entity identity consistencyWhether your name and phone are clear and match what listings show15
Topical associationWhether your site clearly says what you do15
Node breadth and coverageProfiles linked from your site and your schema, and your sitemap15
First-party machine clarityWhether machines can read your site: structured data, text, crawler access, llms.txt10
Historical persistenceHow long your site has been on record10
Geographic and commercial relevanceWhether your site says where you work5
Live AI citation performanceWhether Google Gemini names you for 3 customer questions10

Each category is scored, rounded to a whole number and capped at its maximum, then the 8 are added up. The map reads your homepage the way AI crawlers do, checks your robots.txt, llms.txt, sitemap and archive history, looks for independent sites that mention you, and asks Google Gemini, with live Google Search, 3 questions your customers might ask.

What your score range means

Your total out of 100 places you in one of three ranges. Each range comes with a suggested next step in your emailed map. We always confirm the right scope with you before any paid work starts.

Under 30: Structural gaps

AI has little it can read or confirm about your business. The gaps are usually structural, so the map suggests the AI HQ Build: a new site built so Google and AI can read it. Through December 31, 2026 that’s $1,225, the same as the AI Entity Fix ($4,997 to rebuild the core into a site you keep).

30 to 70: Foundation with gaps

The basics are in place, with clear gaps in what AI can read and confirm. The map lists your top fixes in order and suggests the AI Entity Fix ($1,225) to ship them.

Over 70: Strong foundation

Your site and the web give AI clear, well-supported signals about your business. The map still lists anything worth fixing and suggests the AI Entity Fix ($1,225) to ship it. The AI Citation Tracker can then watch whether Google Gemini keeps naming you.

A score is a snapshot of one day's checks, not a guarantee of what any AI engine will say. The 30 to 70 range is wide, so look at your category scores to see where your points are missing.

What the rubric does not measure

  • It is not a percentage of how accurately an AI model understands your business.
  • It tests Google Gemini only, with live Google Search, for 3 sample questions. It is not a test of every AI engine, and it is not search-volume data.
  • It does not grade the truth of each statement an AI makes about you, and being named does not mean every detail was right.

Common questions

Is my score a percentage of how well AI understands my business?

No. Your score is the total of the 8 rubric categories on this page, each worth a fixed number of points. It measures signals that help AI systems identify and describe a business. It is not a percentage of how accurately any AI model understands you, and a high score does not guarantee what an AI engine will say.

Why does the free map only test Google Gemini?

The live citation category asks Google Gemini, with live Google Search, 3 questions your customers might ask, once each. Testing one engine the same way every time keeps one map comparable with the next. It is not a test of ChatGPT, Perplexity or every AI engine, and new questions or a new area start a new baseline.

Can my score change if nothing on my site changes?

Yes. Several categories look beyond your own site: independent authority counts the outside sites that mention you, identity consistency compares your phone with the listings AI reads, historical persistence checks the web archive, and live AI citation performance records what Gemini answered on the day of the test. Those can move without any change to your site.
