RankOps AI Visibility Rubric · Category 2 of 8

Entity Identity Consistency: Up to 15 of 100 Points

This category checks whether your business has one clear identity: a name that is easy to find on your homepage, and one phone number that is the same on your site, in your structured data and on the listings AI reads. When those details agree, AI has an easier time telling your business apart from similar ones and describing the right one.

Why it matters to AI

Search engines and AI assistants see a business as scattered records: your website, your Google Business Profile, review sites, directories and pages that mention you. Before they can describe you, they have to decide which records belong to the same business. They lean on details that rarely change: your name, phone number and address.

When those details agree, the records join into one picture, and every review and listing adds to it. When they disagree, the picture splits. An old number on a directory or a different name in your page title can leave an AI unsure whether two records are the same business. It may then give the wrong number, merge you with a similar business, or leave you out.

Your site is where you state your identity in a form machines can read. Google explains how structured data helps it understand a page, and the local business guidelines list a phone number among the details to include. Outside listings confirm it, so this category scores both.

How the AI Visibility Map scores it

SignalWhat earns the pointsPoints
Business name on your homepageYour name is in the page title, main heading or business schema4
Phone on your homepageA phone number in the homepage HTML3
Phone in your structured dataA telephone in your business schema2
Phone matches your listingsThe listings AI reads show the same number (0 if a listing confirmed as yours shows a different one, 2 if they could not be compared or the listing could not be confirmed as yours)6

Business name on your homepage (4 points)

The map looks for the business name you gave it in three places: your page title, your main heading and the name in your business schema. It earns the points when all the distinctive words of your name appear there; one place is enough. Endings like LLC or Inc and generic words like services or group are ignored. A logo image in your main heading counts only through its alt text, and a title that names only your service does not supply your name.

Phone on your homepage (3 points)

The map reads your homepage HTML the way AI crawlers do, without running JavaScript. A number written as text or in a tap-to-call link earns the points. A number shown only inside an image, or loaded later by a chat or booking widget, is invisible to that read and scores nothing.

Phone in your structured data (2 points)

These points go to a telephone property on the business node in your structured data, for example a LocalBusiness block. A labeled field means a machine does not have to guess which number is the main one. A phone in plain text alone does not earn these 2 points.

Phone matches your listings (6 points)

This is the biggest part. The map asks Google Gemini, with live Google Search, what phone number your online listings show, from directories, review sites and map listings, not your own site. If a listing shows the same number as your homepage, you earn all 6 points. If a listing confirmed as your business shows a different number, this part scores 0. If a listing shows a different number but the map could not confirm that listing is yours, it scores 2, and your map shows a "Phone to verify" gap so you can check it. If no listing could be compared, it also scores 2.

The map also flags when AI may be mixing you up with another business named like yours: the listing behind Gemini's answer shows a near-identical name, links to a site named like yours, or gives an address in another state. That case scores 2, and the map names the problem so you can check it.

How to improve it

  • Put your business name, as customers know it, in your homepage title and main heading. This usually takes minutes.
  • Choose one main phone number and show it as plain text in your header or footer, inside a tap-to-call link. Do not rely on an image or a widget.
  • Add business structured data with your name, that same telephone and your address or service area, then test it with Google's tools.
  • If you use call-tracking numbers on ads, keep your main number in your site's footer, your schema and your listings.
  • Update your Google Business Profile first, then the review sites and directories you already appear on. Fix or remove duplicate listings. Some take days to change, others weeks.

If you would rather have it done, the AI Entity Fix ($1,225) covers the agreed priority fixes across your website, structured data, Google Business Profile and selected directories. If you have no website, or yours cannot be fixed cleanly, the AI HQ Build ($4,997) includes the site itself, structured data and entity signals. Through December 31, 2026, a new site is $1,225 if you have no website or your map scores under 30. Neither can promise how any AI will describe you.

On the example map

The example map on the RankOps homepage is a real report emailed on Oct 10, 2026 for buy-sell.land, a business owned by RankOps founder Tyler Moncrieff. Its gold "Phone matches listings" rectangle is a strong signal: the map found a phone number in the homepage HTML, and the listings check found the same number online. With the business name clear on the homepage too, this category earned all 15 points. A map that finds a phone but cannot confirm it shows a green "Phone on homepage" rectangle instead (the 3-point signal described above), and a red "Phone mismatch" or "Phone to verify" box means a listing shows another number. Common questions

Why is a matching phone worth more than a phone on my site?

A phone on your own site is your own claim. The same phone on listings you do not control is outside confirmation that the business on your site and the business in those listings are one and the same. That cross-check is what lets search engines and AI systems connect the two with confidence, so it carries 6 of the 15 points.

What if my listings show an old phone number?

If a listing confirmed as your business shows a different number, the listings part scores 0 and the map puts fixing it near the top of your list. If the map cannot confirm the listing is yours, that part scores 2 and the map asks you to check the listings that show the other number. Either way, correct your Google Business Profile first, then the other listings you already have, and keep your site, schema and listings identical. Some listings take weeks to update.

Does the map check ChatGPT or other AI engines for my phone?

No. The map asks Google Gemini, with live Google Search, what phone number your online listings show, then compares it with your homepage. It does not test ChatGPT or other engines. If no listing could be compared, that part scores 2 of 6 points instead of 0.
